Microsoft has definitively abandoned the idea of bringing its operating system to the smartphone segment, after the unsuccessful projects launched in the past, but someone has thought about how to install Windows 11 on a smartphone. Yes, you heard it right! considering the highly experimental nature of the initiative and an outdated hardware sector dating back to 2015.
Windows 11 installed on Lumia 950 XL smartphone?
Developer Gustave Monce managed to launch the preview build of the platform for ARM devices on a Lumia 950 XL, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, with 3GB of RAM and a 5.7-inch display. You can check him on YouTube doing the stuff!
The Microsoft redesigned Start Menu is there and behaves as expected, the same goes for the animations. Gustave Monce also manually intervened on the drivers in order to enable mobile connectivity, effectively giving life to what is in effect a smartphone with Windows 11. However, we know that the Redmond group has no plans to make the operating system available on phones – at least a 9-inch screen is needed. The layout is however touch-friendly, optimized for tablets, 2-in-1s and convertible laptops that support this type of interaction.
As for the smartphone segment, the software house seems to have definitively chosen Android, as evidenced by the Surface Duo model launched last year.
