In Windows 11 operating system, and generally in all operating systems, when performing tasks such as opening applications, going to websites, etc., it is housed on the hard drive in a special section called a cache. The purpose of this cache is that access is more agile when accessing this site or application on future occasions. This cache memory will facilitate specific task access faster, allowing us to streamline processes that need immediate information.
This is ideal for all of us, but there is also a risk, and that is that our disk begins to fill with these cache files to the point of affecting the regular operation of the disk and thus harming the general behaviour of Windows 11, In this case, it is best to erase this cache hosted in various places in the system. We will explain how to achieve this.
Steps to clear the cache on Windows 11
The first step will be to clear the File Explorer cache, which is one of the most used; for that, we open the File Explorer and go to “See More – Options”.
In the displayed window, we click the “Delete” button at the bottom. Apply the changes once the process is finished.
Now it is time to clear the cache of some Configuration parameters. To achieve this, we go to “Start – Configuration”.
There we will go to the “Privacy and security” section. In this section, we click on “Activity history”.
Then we click on “Delete” in the “Delete activity history” field.
We confirm the changes by clicking OK.
Now, in Application Permissions, we click on “Location”.
A window will be displayed. We click on “Delete” to complete the process.
The next step will be to clear the cache of the Download folder in the software distribution. For this, we open the File Explorer, and there we go to “C: \ Windows \ SoftwareDistribution” we right-click on the “Download” folder, we select the “Properties” option:
C: \ Windows \ SoftwareDistribution
In the pop-up window, we will see the size of this folder.
We access the Download folder and delete its content.
Finally, we will delete the temporary files of Windows 11; for this process, we open Run.
Enter “% temp%” in the Run window.
We delete the content of the temporary folder.
