The Win+Shift+S keyboard shortcut is a very useful shortcut for Windows 10/11 users. It allows us to capture a part or full screen to the clipboard in Windows 11 or Windows 10 on a PC/Laptop. But sometimes, it may fail to responds or stopped working due to some conflict between the Snip and Sketch Tool, Snipping Tool, and OneNote. Many users have been suffering from this problem, where the Win+Shift+S shortcut key is not working for them in their Windows 11 or 10 operating system. 6 Ways to Fix Win Shift S Not Working in Windows 11 or 10

  1. Clean your Keys physically.
  2. Turn on Clipboard HistoryToggle.
  3. Troubleshoot in Clean Boot State.
  4. Enable Snip & Sketch switch.
  5. Try to reset the Snipping Tool/ Snip & Sketch.
  6. Use the PrntScrn feature.

Method 1: Clean your Keys physically

We should always keep our keyboard dust free. Regularly cleaning your keys is a good habit. Sometimes, our keys may not be able to work due to anything sticking in keys on the keyboard. So, clean physically Win, Shift, and S keys on your keyboard.

Method 2: Turn on Clipboard HistoryToggle:

Check the Clipboard history switch on your system. If it is turned off, then you need to enable it. Follow the steps to enable Clipboard History on Windows 10/11.

  • Go to Settings.
  • Head to the System.
  • Click on Clipboard.
  • Now turn on the Clipboard HistoryToggle.

Method 3:  Troubleshoot in Clean Boot State

Some third-party processes could also be the reason for the shortcut key problem. Perform a Clean Boot and troubleshoot manually to identify the offender and solve the problem.

Method 4: Enable Snip & Sketch switch:

Make sure that the Snip & Sketch switch is turned on. Here are the steps for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

For Windows 11:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Select System category from the left panel.
  • Click on the Notifications tab right side of the page.
  • You will see the Notifications from apps and other senders section.
  • Turn on the Snipping Tool.

For Windows 10:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Navigate to System.
  • Head to the Notifications & actions section.
  • Enable Snip & Sketch switch.

Method 5: Try to reset the Snipping Tool/ Snip & Sketch:

If turning on the Snipping Tool/ Snip & Sketch doesn’t solve the issue, then you should reset the Snipping Tool/ Snip & Sketch on your Windows 10 and 11 operating system.

For Windows 11:

  • Open your Settings app.
  • Select App category.
  • Navigate to App & Features.
  • Find the Snipping Tool and click on the three vertical dots next to it.
  • Choose Advanced Options.
  • Click on the reset button and the Snipping Tool will reset.
  • After resetting, restart your PC.

For Windows 10:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Head to the App section.
  • Go to the App & features section.
  • Scroll down and find Snip & Sketch.
  • Go to the Advanced options link after clicking on Snip & Sketch.
  • Now you will see the Reset button.
  • Once the reset process is done, restart your system.

Check whether the Win Shift S shortcut key is working or not.

Method 6: Use the PrntScrn feature

You may use the PrntScrn feature as a shortcut key instead of the Win Shift S shortcut key. A PrntScrn feature is an alternative option to the Win Shift S shortcut key on Windows operating system. Follow the given steps below.

  • Open Settings app.
  • Navigate to Ease of Access.
  • Go to the Keyboard option.
  • Locate Use the PrntScrn button to open snipping.
  • Turn it on or enable it.
