They have also shared the public release date and iOS 16 operating system features.

What’s new in iOS 16?

iOS 16 is the sixteen and current major release of the iOS operating system developed by Apple for its iPhone. It was announced at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 6, 2022, as the successor to iOS 15. One of the most significant changes in iOS 16 is a revamped lock screen, which includes a wide range of customization options and layouts. The redesigned notification panel roll up from the bottom of the Lock Screen. With iOS 16, you can Edit and Undo send messages on your iPhone. SharePlay is going beyond FaceTime and is now available on Messages. iOS 16 has added a new feature called Safety Check. The upgraded dictation feature allows us to understand speech and transfer it into text.

When will iOS 16 be released?

  • Apple announced iOS 16 on June 6 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). However, the iOS 16 stable build will likely be released to the public on September 7, 2022. Apple will announce the iPhone 14 series on September 7, 2022. So, we expect the iOS 16 final build will announce at the same event.

Update 31/08/2022: Apple has released the iOS 16 eighth Beta ahead of its final release. If you have enrolled in the beta program, you can check for it by navigating to the General > Software Update menu on your iPhone’s Settings app. Since the Beta builds often come with bugs, it will be best to avoid the update on primary devices. The iOS 16 beta 8 carries build number 20A5358a and has several bug fixes, performance improvements, and optimizations.

Update 15/08/2022: iOS 16 beta 6 is rolling out to registered developers, one week after the 5th Beta was released. With iOS 16 beta 6, testers can disable the battery percentage view when using Low Power Mode on their iPhones. It drops support for the Live Activities API in third-party applications.

Update 08/08/2022: iOS 16 beta 5 is now available, including several changes, bug fixes, and even new features. The build number for iOS 16 beta 5 is 20A5339d. iOS 16 beta 5 finally includes battery percentage to notched iPhones.

Update 11/07/2022: Apple released the first public Beta of iOS 16 on July 11 with features like a customizable lock screen, Edit/Unsend iMessage, and more. If you own an iPhone 8 or newer, you can test the prerelease iOS 16 software by joining Beta Software Program. Be sure to back up your iPhone before installing beta software.

Interested users can install the iOS 16 developer beta on their devices by joining the Apple Developer Program. It should be noted a Developer Beta build is a prerelease version of the iOS intended for developers and highly technical users only. The build number is 20A5283p.

Apple has confirmed that the first iOS 16 public beta build will be released sometime in July 2022. You have to join the Beta Software Program to access the public betas.

As per Mark Gurman, iOS 16’s first public Beta will release alongside iOS 16 developer beta 3 in July 2022.

Apple launches its new version of the iOS operating system every year. In 2020 we saw iOS 14; in 2021, we saw iOS 15; the upcoming iOS 16 is expected to release around September 2022. Also, it’s worth mentioning that we could expect the iPhone 14 series to be launched along or nearly the iOS 16 operating system.

Apple’s A11 chipset is the minimum requirement to run iOS 16. So iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE 2016 are not eligible for the iOS 16 Update.

The upcoming Apple iPhone 14 series, namely iPhone 14, 14 Pro, 14 Max, and 14 Pro Max, will come with iOS 16 out of the box.

How to Download iOS 16 Beta?

Note: As of now, only the developer beta version of iOS 16 is available. The developer beta usually comes with lots of bugs. So we do not recommend it to regular users. This build is meant only for app developers to test out their apps.

You can sign up for iOS 16 Developer Beta using the following simple steps:

Step 1: Open the Apple Developer app on your iPhone

Step 2: Click the Account tab and sign in with your Apple ID.

Step 3: Now agree on the Apple Developer Agreement and tap on Enroll Now.

Step 4: Provide your personal information, as requested by Apple. A Photo ID is required for the enrolment, and you must select “Individual” as your entity type.

Step 5: You must pay the membership fee, usually $99.

After your successful payment, you will be redirected to the Account page in the Apple Developer app. To download the iOS 16 developer beta, you need to Install Profile under ‌the iOS 16‌ beta. After installing the Profile, head over to Software Update> Download and Install> Install Now.

How can I update to iOS 16?

Method 1: Keep automatic updates enabled on your phone. Your device will automatically update to iOS 16, or you will receive a prompt to do so.

Method 2: You can go to the “Settings”> “General”> “Software Update” path and then click “Upgrade to iOS 16” (Coming Soon). Click on “Download and Install”, and the iOS 16 update will begin installing on your handset. You will have to restart after updating.
