It is almost confirmed that the latest iOS 16 updates will arrive in June 2022. The iOS 16 updates will bring many new features such as an always-on display, and lock screen widgets with new wallpapers. So, all iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users are thinking if they will be able to use the latest iOS 16 updates or not. An early leak suggests that the iPhone 6s series won’t get the iOS 16. But what about iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus?
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus iOS 16 update status
- Update June 6: Both iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users will not be able to use the latest iOS 16 Update. Surprisingly, Apple has excluded the iPhone 7 series from the iOS 16 supported device list.
Update 30/08/2022: Apple released the iOS 16 beta 8 with bug fixes, optimization and performance improvement. It comes with build number 20A5358a. If you own an iPhone 8 or newer, you can test the pre-release iOS 16 software by joining Beta Software Program. Navigate to the General > Software Update menu on your iPhone’s Settings app.
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were introduced in September 2016 with iOS 10 and currently sitting on the latest iOS 15 version. We all know that Apple ideally supports devices for at least five years, and some get an additional year of support. Based on this logic, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus may receive updates until 2022, and Apple has a pretty good track record in extending the longevity of iPhones, iPads, and Mac devices. So, according to predictions based on past year patterns of supporting iPhone by Apple, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models will receive the latest iOS 16, which will be released in September 2022.
The most supported iPhone to date has been the iPhone 6s series which received seven feature updates during its lifetime (from iOS 8 to iOS 15). That is ridiculous, and apple’s longevity of support is unmatched. According to solid leaks, the latest iOS 16 updates would require a minimum A10 chipset, and iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus both come with a powerful A10 Fusion chip. As of now, everything indicates that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users will be able to use the iOS 16 updates.
However, nothing is official yet. Apple will announce the arrival date of iOS 16 at WWDC alongside the supported devices list. The next WWDC is expected to be held in June 2022. Once the supported devices list is revealed, we will be able to know whether the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models will receive the iOS 16 updates or not.
How many iOS updates will you receive in your iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the future?
- The iOS 16 version could be the last software update for the iPhone7/7 Plus models.
So, it seems that iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which recently got iOS 15, should ideally be getting iOS 16. But after iOS 16 updates, Apple may not continue to support these two iPhone models. Although, we don’t know what Apple is planning, and we are telling you based on last year’s patterns of supporting iPhones.
Conclusion:
If you have been an iPhone user for a long, then you already know, and you can predict whether the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will get the iOS 16 updates, and after iOS 16, they will stop receiving software updates. According to leaks and Apple’s update patterns, we can assume that iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will receive the latest iOS 16 update, which will be released in September 2022.
