Today, Microsoft has released the KB5004760 update for Windows 10 21H1, 20H2, and 2004. It is listed as out-of-band. KB5003637 or later update for 21H1, 20H2 and 2004 released on June 9 created an issue regarding “PDF files cannot be opened in 64-bit applications”. Now the latest out-of-band patch update resolves issues with opening PDF files. By installing KB5004760, you will be able to open PDF files normally with IE11 etc.

Addresses an issue that might prevent you from opening PDFs using Internet Explorer 11 or apps that use the 64-bit version of the WebBrowser control. Additionally, a PDF might render as just a gray background when using the Adobe Acrobat plug-in.
In addition to checking the push in the Settings Center “Windows Update”, you can also manually download updates through the Microsoft update catalogue.
