From version 94 Microsoft is going to switch to a new release cycle for the Edge browser. Instead of every six weeks as before, from Edge version 94 new updates will be released every month. Microsoft Edge is bringing change to provide users with more frequent bug fixes and to bring in new features to the Edge browser.
Also, there will be an exception for companies who don’t want to bring new updates every month. This has already been announced and will now be specified in a new support article.
The “Extended Stable Channel” will join the current “Stable Channel”. With this only the versions of Microsoft Edge with an even number are distributed, i.e. 94, 96, 98 and so on. This means that a version is always skipped without companies having to forego security updates and bug fixes. The “Extended Stable Channel” is set via group policy or Microsoft Endpoint Manager. Microsoft Edge then updates itself as usual but skips the odd versions.
Also, Microsoft is extending the support periods for the older versions of Edge. So in the future, the current and the last two versions will be supported in the regular channel, so that each version will receive important updates for three months. The current version and the previous version are supported in the Extended Stable Channel, effectively covering a period of four months.
