Microsoft has just halved the price of the Surface Duo in Germany. The Android smartphone with two screens is now available for 774 euros. This may seem logical at first glance, but it is still remarkable.
Although there are no official sales figures for the Surface Duo, it is an open secret that the number of devices sold is just above the limit of perception. Basically, everything has been said about the device itself: It’s an interesting and exciting concept, but one that still has significant weaknesses. Nevertheless, there are already buyers who are quite happy with the Surface Duo.
One of the criticisms of the Surface Duo was the price. Microsoft has now officially halved this in Germany. In the Microsoft Store, you can buy the device for 774 euros in the version with 128 GB of storage space, for 50 euros more you get 256 GB.
We only see such discounts from Microsoft when they say goodbye to a product. With the Surface Duo, however, it is certain that there will be a successor. We remember: Microsoft wrote off $ 900 million on the first Surface tablet and put the inventory in the shredder instead of selling it off. The latter would have made it impossible to put the successor back to the start at the price of the predecessor.
The fact that Microsoft is cutting the price of the Surface Duo in such a way can therefore also be seen as a tangible indication of a price reduction for the Surface Duo 2.
Nothing has changed in my personal recommendation with the new price: It is and will remain a niche device, you have to know exactly what you are getting yourself into when you buy it.
