Former co-founder of OnePlus and current CEO of mysterious startup Nothing, Carl Pei, has announced the launch of its first-ever smartphone as Nothing Phone (1). The startup Nothing was launched in late 2020, with its first-ever product being a pair of TWS earphones named Nothing Ear (1). After the release of Nothing Ear (1), the startup plans to release its first smartphone in just a few months.
Recently Nothing held a virtual event where Carl Pei confirmed that they were working on a smartphone. However, the CEO of Nothing didn’t offer much detail beyond promising a summer release. They also revealed the Nothing OS- the Android-based operating system which will arrive along with the Nothing Phone 1. According to leaks, the Nothing OS will be available as a launcher in April. Users could try the new OS before the arrival of Nothing Phone 1.
Nothing Phone 1 release date
- Nothing Phone 1 will launch this summer 2022. It will likely release on the market in July 2022.
However, we don’t have a more concrete release date yet. But it is almost confirmed that the Nothing Phone 1 will ship in July 2022 along with Nothing OS. At the virtual event, the CEO of Nothing, Carl Pei, confirmed that Nothing Phone 1 is scheduled to launch this summer. Based on that, we expect the Nothing Phone 1 to come in mid-July 2022.
Nothing Phone 1 specifications
We don’t know if this smartphone will be a flagship or a more affordable one. We have minimal to report regarding Nothing Phone 1 specs. However, everything indicates that the Nothing Phone 1 will run on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, as the startup openly announced a partnership with Qualcomm in late 2021. Carl Pei also promises to provide three OS updates and four years of software support. Nothing also shared an image of the Nothing Phone 1 during the virtual events, but that was too blurry to notice any details. From the first teaser image of Nothing Phone 1, we can assume that Nothing Phone 1 might come with a pill-shaped camera module like iPhone X on the top left side. Anyways for more specs details, we have to wait for some time.
Nothing Phone 1 price
- Nothing Phone 1 could be priced at $800 in the US. In the UK, the Nothing Phone 1 may cost £700. In terms of Canadian pricing, the Nothing Phone 1 may start at CAD 1200.
The company’s first-ever product -the Nothing Ear 1, boasted competitive pricing at $99. That was a very competitive price, retaining premium features like active noise cancellation (ANC). However, till now, we don’t have any official information about the pricing of the Nothing Phone 1. If the phones were powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, competitive pricing would land it at $800, like Realme’s fresh-faced GT 2 Pro and Google’s Pixel 6. So, we can expect the Nothing Phone 1 price to start at around $800.
Conclusion
As per the Pei plans, the Nothing startup wants to build an ecosystem of innovative products whose heart will be the Phone 1. They want to compete with the Apple ecosystem. However, Nothing is official yet. We have to wait for a few months to know the exact details about the Nothing Phone (1).
