Microsoft has released the first Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22000.51 for the Dev channel. Recently, Windows 11 has been ported to Microsoft Lumia 950 XL and Raspberry Pi 4. Now the beta version was successfully flashed on Xiaomi Mi 8.
The fact of installing Windows 11 ARM on Xiaomi Mi 8 is first reported by Gizmochina. Little is known about the experiment, but there is an image surface on the web.
The image shows that Windows 11 is not at all designed to be displayed on rounded displays – interface elements are lost in the bends, and the system does not compensate for this in any way.
The experimenters clarify that hardly anyone wants to seriously use Windows on Xiaomi Mi 8. It works, but very badly, the touch screen did not start up and the USB port does not work.
There are also smaller nuances. So this experiment remains only a personal victory for the developer himself but does not provide any new scenarios for ordinary users.
A few days ago, Windows 11 was installed on the old Lumia 950 XL. It worked very well on it. The Mi 8 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset while the Lumia 950 XL is powered by the Snapdragon 810 chipset.
Windows operating system on smartphones is not possible officially, at least not anytime soon. However, it is interesting to see developers are boosting the development of Windows on ARM projects.
